This site is dedicated to the memory of my friend Dr. John P. Hurtgen who passed away while doing what he loved - helping a mare foal. He was a wonderful friend, boss , and teacher . He bred Como Park- the mare pictured above, and gave me Firefly who is also pictured above and allowed me to buy my wonderful Holsteiner broodmare Look At Me . I showed many horses for him and in turn he allowed me to show my horse Wapsicle. His favorite horse when I was at Nandi was a foal he bred named NF Theodore ( Wap Spotted x Moms Manhattan ) who was a loud leopard colt . Theo won the Appaloosa Sport Horse Class at Dressage At Devon with me and John was very proud of him. When I was 12 yrs old I had him do a PPE on an appaloosa gelding and he told me he had conformation faults and that I needed to learn to judge conformation......and I took that to heart and started in 4-H judging classes up to collegiate judging - watching and learning. This was only 1 example of how he inspired me. Dr Hurtgen knew I wanted to learn and every day when checking mares he always took the time to TEACH me as if I was a veterinarian / colleague because I wanted to learn. He would teach anyone willing to learn. He stayed up late every night reading anything on horses . Every time I went back or would need supplies from him and Linda - it was like I had never left - he would start yacking away - the great story teller that he was. He left us too soon. I will miss you Doctor H ! ( passed away on 2/17/10 at 2 am )
